Adults, from 18 to 60 years old, should sleep at least 7 hours every night for optimal physical and mental health. Unfortunately, about 1 out of 3 American adults is sleeping less than 7 hours in a 24-hour period.
Some people get obsessed thinking about a certain project or an event that happened that they often lose their sleep. It could also be because of the shifting levels of estrogen and progesterone either before or during a woman’s period. A series of studies connect lack of sleep to obesity and other conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, and Type 2 diabetes. But experts say that a good night’s sleep can reverse these conditions.
